The 2025 WCGtv Assiniboine Open<\/strong>, held on Saturday, October 4th<\/strong>, at the Healthy Living Centre at Brandon University<\/strong>, brought together an impressive 52 participants<\/strong> from Brandon, Killarney, Saskatoon, Winkler, and Winnipeg<\/strong> for a thrilling weekend of table tennis action. The event showed the growing strength and passion for the sport in Manitoba and beyond.<\/p>\n The tournament featured competitive and entertaining matches across all divisions, with players of all ages and skill levels displaying great sportsmanship and energy throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n A special thank-you goes to our event sponsor, Westman Communications Group<\/strong>, for their invaluable support and coverage, which helped bring well-deserved attention to the sport and the players in the Brandon community.<\/p>\n Alexus Lee<\/strong> emerged as the standout performer of the weekend, claiming the Open Singles<\/strong> title in dominant fashion.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n In the Junior Singles<\/strong> final, it was a family showdown as Victoria Lee<\/strong> triumphed over her sister in a thrilling match to secure the championship.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n The Active for Life<\/strong> division crowned a new champion \u2014 Dino Sepulveda<\/strong> from Chile \u2014 whose skill and consistency earned him the well-deserved title.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n On Sunday, October 5th<\/strong>, the excitement continued with the Crusty Bun Cup<\/strong>, a team event featuring 14 teams<\/strong> and plenty of upsets and surprises.<\/p>\n Last year\u2019s defending champions (Dictators)<\/strong> were eliminated by Saskatchewan Shogun<\/strong> in a dramatic quarterfinal<\/strong> match, where Mathus Moeithaisong<\/strong> delivered an incredible performance, edging out Manitoba\u2019s Steven Yan<\/strong> in a nail-biting 3\u20132 decider<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The tournament culminated in an electrifying final between Team V&A<\/strong> and The Night Hawk League<\/strong>. It was a classic showdown of seniors versus juniors<\/strong>, and after an intense battle, the Lee duo<\/strong> once again rose to the occasion, overcoming their experienced opponents to claim the Crusty Bun Cup<\/strong> championship title.<\/p>\n A big thank-you to The Crusty Bun<\/strong> for sponsoring this event and supporting table tennis development in Manitoba.<\/p>\n The Manitoba Table Tennis Association would like to thank all players, volunteers, and organizers for contributing to another successful event.<\/p>\n The next stop on the provincial circuit will be the Red River Open<\/strong>, taking place in November 2025<\/strong>.
