Respect in Sport (mandatory for MTTA partner coaches)
The Manitoba Table Tennis Association (MTTA) is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for all participants. As part of this commitment, MTTA supports and enforces the Respect in Sport (RiS) certification requirements established through Sport Manitoba and provincial legislation.
Respect in Sport is a nationally recognized online training program designed for coaches and sport leaders. The program helps create safe, respectful, and welcoming sport environments by increasing awareness of topics such as participant protection, appropriate conduct, abuse prevention, and ethical decision-making.
The Respect in Sport certification consists of seven online modules and takes approximately 80 minutes to complete. Participants may complete the training in one session or over multiple sittings. Upon completion, a certificate is generated and recorded within the Respect in Sport database.
Under The Protecting Youth in Sports Act, which came into effect on April 1, 2026, Respect in Sport certification is required for coaches working with youth in Manitoba. MTTA requires all applicable coaches and sport leaders within our programs and affiliated clubs to maintain valid certification in accordance with provincial legislation, Sport Manitoba requirements, and applicable National Sport Organization standards.
Certification must be renewed every five years, or sooner if required by governing sport organizations. Coaches who participate in multiple sports only need one active Respect in Sport certification, which can be recognized across sports through the Respect in Sport database.
Through the Respect in Sport platform, individuals can register for certification, recertify, import an existing certificate, retrieve their certificate number, update their profile information, and manage the sports with which they are affiliated.
By supporting and enforcing Respect in Sport requirements, MTTA helps ensure that table tennis in Manitoba remains a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable experience for all participants.
