Manitoba Open Titles Decided

The Manitoba Open was hosted December 10th and 11th this season instead of in March. The idea was to hopefully entice players from Saskatchewan and Alberta to attend in order to compete against our Canada Games kids. In the end, Alberta could not come but Derek and Conner Mercer made the trip from Saskatchewan and took home the second-place trophies in the B Doubles.

Top ranked Matthew Lehmann returned to Manitoba competitions and easily out scored his opponents…however, 2016 > 50 Years Singles Champion of Canada – Michal Rybak – managed to take a game off Matthew in the semi’s. Yi Fan Lu was runner-up. Michal dropped the >40 final to his nemesis Juan Tagle Jr. in four games. Charles Belches defeated Zach Dong in the Junior Boy’s final and as always, the Junior Girl’s event was super tight with Grace Qi prevailing in the end in a five setter over Alexus Lee.

Matthew partnered with former Provincial team player Sergiu Buda to defeat surprise finalists Charles and Samantha Belches in straight sets to claim the A doubles title.

Complete results are located to the right as well as the Circuit Standings after two events.
